“Alla lettera” is an Italian double entendre. Literally translated, the phrase is an homage to typography and the shape or words, while it also means “to do things well, with quality and following tradition.” As the brand was realized for this pizzeria located in Piazza Bodoni, Turin, Italy, “O”s from different Bodoni families were used in the logo to connote the restaurant’s main product (pizza), the menu design was influenced by typography from daily newspapers, and the staff uniforms designs mimicked those worn by moveable type printers. The concept for alla lettera takes on both meanings and blends the dynamics shared by design and cooking to concoct the ideas behind their food and their brand.
