In the last few weeks, our coverage of international identity work has risen quite a bit, just looking at the last twenty-five entries, eleven of them are not from the U.S.. This is exciting. But as some of the last international posts have shown, it’s very easy for us Americans to miss the nuances of all brands — like Movistar’s logo nickname being “moco”. So, we are looking for enterprising men and women around the world who would like to write for Brand New. Australia, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Russia, UK, everywhere. We would like to have a set of go-to writers for our international posts. A few more details follow.
The most important thing to say upfront is that this is unpaid writing work. At this point we are barely figuring out how to pay for the accrued time we have invested into the blogs over the past seven years and the moment we are swimming in money we will start divesting it as deserved. For now, the best we can offer is due credit (of course) and pay you back in internet traffic through a link back to the writer’s preferred web site.
You know the kind of writing we are looking for: aware, incisive, entertaining and knowledgeable. Posts are usually between two and four paragraphs, so it’s not like you have to write a thesis on each logo. All articles will be in English — and you will be more than welcome to post a translation on your site if you are up for it — I’m a fairly decent editor, so I can help to a certain extent. We are looking for people that are not afraid to say “This is not good” and explain why. More direction and guidance will be provided as assignments are handed out. Turnaround times for reviews is short, usually between three and five days.
If you are interested, please send me an e-mail at brandnew [at] underconsideration [dot] com with your location and if you have a blog or writing samples. And the moment we have something from your country we will contact you to see if you have the time and interest to review a specific identity. We have no set plan on how to go perfectly about this, so we will figure it out as we go along. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
