To end the week, and almost the month, I am unloading three brand related stories that were getting backlogged in my e-mail. (And, yes, I know about the new NBCUniversal logo and I’m waiting for clearance on some official images.)
1. Urban Outfitters
Last November there was a big stink about the stinky “new” Urban Outfitters logo. But few people realized that UO changes their logo every quarter or so. Now a “new new” logo is up on their website. That better haters?
Thanks to Chris Garvey for the tip.
2. Melbourne
One of the better received identities in the last couple of years has been Landor’s work for the City of Melbourne and if it’s good enough for Melbourne it’s good enough for Fantasia MIC Plaza in China, who completely lifted the identity piece by piece and even mounted a big sign on a building.
Thanks to Jason Little for the tip.
3. Esquire Logo Project
Esquire magazine asked twelve “of today’s most innovative artists and designers to reengineer the Esquire logo for the twenty-first century.” What does that mean? A lot of cooky ideas from Michel Gondry, Tom Geismar, General Motors Design, Yves Behar, and Porsche Design Studio, among others. All in video format. They even had a 99designs.com contest.
Thanks to Grant Bernstein for the tip.
