Bidding for the 2024 Summer Olympics, started in 2015, and the host of the Summer Olympic Games will be announced at the 130th International Olympic Committee IOC Session in Lima, Peru on 13 September 2017. On 23 June 2015, on the occasion of Olympic Day, Paris officially declared its bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024, behind the entire French sporting movement.
Dragon Rouge (Paris, France)
The logo, elected by the bid committee, recalls the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower and also suggests a number, 24, to Paris in 2024, but also refers to the centenary of the last Olympics held in Paris in 1924.
Eiffel Tower + 24 = Voilà. A simple idea not easily doable but carried out as best as possible. The icon reads very well as both meanings and it's fun to let your brain switch between seeing the 24 and the Eiffel Tower. My only complaint would be that the overuse of gradients and colors of the rainbow make it feel like a TV channel or a 24-hour news program but the brief glimpse of the 1-color version in the images below shows that it's a strong logo when you strip away the decoration. The type is decent and serves simply as a foundation that does not distract from the icon.
Plans are in development for coming back to Europe in Spring of 2018 with the current top contender host city of Barcelona.
