When you think of gala invitations and posters you probably think of bad script typefaces in a centered arrangement printed with black engraving on an off-white felt paper. Apologies to anyone that has designed a gala set of materials like that; nothing personal! In this poster for San Antonio River Foundation's River Gala, Jamie Stolarski has taken all those clichés and put them to sleep with the fishes. The deep black paper serves as the perfect background for some wide coverage of foil stamping in a shimmering blue. The bold, sans serif, underwater-themed lettering is really great and helps make the traditional script type look remarkably fresh. A gala(nt) effort!

This is super cool. How many passes did it take on press for the foil?

Jamie’s comment is:

Thanks everyone. This was a really fun project for a great client.

@ EnergonCube: The paper only made one pass through the foil stamping machine. The pressman informs me that it's a state of the art Gietz Foil Stamper that can accommodate large (41.7" x 29.5") image areas. They did have to make some on-press adjustments for some of the smaller detail and counters in the type.

Thanks again for the feature, Armin.
