In a series of multiple posters — this is the first of two that will be shown on FPO — to celebrate the inauguration of their design firm, Parallell Studio in Sweden, designer Erik Olofsson explored printing processes through visual concepts based on pairing words like Proportion & Rhythm, Information & Dekoration, or Work & Rest. Shown here is Tavla & Dikt, or Painting & Poem, a black and white poster designed in a very clean and classical style but smeared and grunged in production. Erik elaborates:
For this poster we tried to, in an analogue way, make that mulitply layer that you often apply to avarage designs to make them look torn or vintage. The printer was very amused when we told him not to clean out the dust from the plate. Then we smudged the poster directly from the press before the ink dried, making each one unique.
The result is a very cool and convincing design that proves that getting your hands dirty is infinitely more rewarding than faux dirty hands courtesy of Photoshop.
