These pieces are produced one at a time by hand. In serigraphy each color is applied singly with each color air drying before the next is applied. The specific inks used in our process produce a uniquely flat appearance, akin to gouache.

How do you make a single alphabetic character an object of affection and desire? To start, it helps if said character was designed by House Industries or it came from the venerable vault of the legendary Photo-Lettering library of typefaces. Then, you would choose salivating colors like gold, orange and black. And it wouldn't hurt if they were printed — to order! — by a master silkscreen printer like David Dodde, whose "Slow air-drying" technique, as House Industries describes, "is an essential step in Dodde's process and allows the use of richly-pigmented inks to reach the unique deep flatness that is characteristic of high quality prints."

This past September, House Industries introduced House Serigraphs, a collection of 27 prints featuring select characters that can be ordered at two sizes, 26 in × 20 in (for $35) and 8.5 in × 11 in (for $18) and are delivered to your door fresh from the silkscreen oven. We are now the lucky owners of a large Hasler Circus X from Photo-Lettering, digitized by Erik van Blokland.
