Andy Jacobson met the photographer Jon Plasse through their mutual friend and writer Peter Carey. In this unique photography book Jon sets out to chronicle the passing of his mother Sherley through photographs of their last days together, and of the many mementos that she left behind.

We worked with Jon to arrange and display his work in the book so that the photographs would have a narrative quality — Sherley at home, followed by emptiness, and ending with sterile quality of a house lacking all human identity. We considered light, rhythm and pace in the design. Believing that certain photography books should only focus on the pictures themselves, rather than bring attention to the design, we chose to keep the overall look of the book simple, clean, and uncluttered.

Working with the printer, a very bright white paper stock was selected in order to highlight the rich blacks tones of Jon's photos. A detail that is artfully noted as one journeys from page to page.
