Status Serigraph is the design firm and print enterprise of Justin Helton, based in Knoxville, TN and when the band Ween made a stop on his hometown, he created a limited edition poster for the event. Weird and offbeat, the poster is wonderfully textured, and its inspiration is unexpected:
My number one influence in process is the music of the band that I am designing for… part of my process involves listening to the band as I design. I also love to draw influence from gigposters.com, many design magazines, cartoons, and other artists. The face in this particular design is actually based on a photo of the original G.I. Joe doll… It had sort of a creepy/weird feeling to it… so I tried to intensify that feeling and play upon it. I think a lot of Ween’s songs have this same feeling therefore the design felt good for the show.
