For many, college and football go together like peanut butter and jelly, and when the season starts it is a big deal.

The presidential football invitations were created for the fall 2010 season. It’s always a fine line to walk between academic and athletic messaging in a university setting. A reverse hammered emboss pattern simulated a football texture on our custom boxes which gave a nod to athletics without being to direct. A special interior holder was designed to house a laser engraved key, the invitation, RSVP, and game cards. After meeting with our client the concept our donors are the key to our success arose. The custom key is a fully functioning key that can be extracted and carried with our donors as a reminder to their relationship to Texas State University.

Without a doubt there are many pieces to this project, and different production techniques that can’t be completed by a single vendor. This is where a good project manager earns his salary, and where a process novice is sure to grow a few grey hairs.

The toughest aspect of the project was coordinating production and timing of all the components. I can’t stress how important mockups are in facilitating clear communication with vendors. Especially on a project that has many moving pieces and vendors on each coast. Get to know your vendors well. When you do they tell yourimportant things that impact your project like, “we are closing for a week of inventory.” Knowing this allows you to schedule your project without hiccups.
