Chicago-based Thirst has been doing the Loeb Fellows at Work poster for the Harvard University Graduate School of Design for a few years now and they always pack a juicy visual punch.

This year’s process consciously created an un-spoken dialog with AGI member, Philippe Apeloig’s seminal poster of 1999. It’s a reflection on the urban landscape in transition — a perfect expression for this year’s Loeb Fellows at work transforming the urban landscape.

Unlike other years, however, budget was an issue.

A sign of the times? Three years ago this poster was 11 over 1, this year it’s 3 over 1

Which is actually not a bad thing. I really like the resourcefulness of using only three spot colors to create a very colorful poster that blends one spot with the other and uses gradients in the letterforms that add plenty of depth. And that little strip of purple when the two colors meet is quite delightful.
