There’s a place here in Austin that makes beautiful rubber stamps. I’ve yet to have one made, but it’s a wonderful way to give sense of ownership over something. Having a stamp made is a commitment; an appropriate reflection for the subject matter in this case. Nice and simple and not overdone. Weddings don’t have to be frilly.
This piece was commissioned to be our wedding announcement. Since we had a small wedding there were no invitations, but we still wanted to print something to share with family and friends. Our friend Andy makes beautiful woodblock prints on his small press, so we asked him to design and print them for us.
We were married at an arboretum in the Northwest, so we wanted some kind of native pine cone, and settled on the Coastal Redwood after Andy sent along some sketches.
To give a bit of context we made a seal that we stamped on the backing board with information about the wedding (date, location, etc).
We’ve always been fans of them to begin with, but stamps are a great way to personalize projects or even add an additional color. We learned that big stamps with a lot of detail can take some time to get used to, many test stamps were made!
