Delicate pressed flowers and laser cut board? what is there not to love, right? I personally love the contrast of the delicate items with the hard screws and rough board, and can’t help but wonder as to what the interior will look like. This is one beautifully done book that highlights several DIY techniques that anyone can achieve with stunning results.
This brief, set by International society of typographic designers, was to design a typography outcome that celebrated the garden. My concept was to create a publication influenced by the seasons. This publication is bound as a flower press, and incorporates delicate pressed flowers that have been preserved from decay during the seasonal cycle.
I used a laser cutter to create the top layer of the cover which I created by layering matt board, pressed flowers, acrylic and green sugar paper together. I also created a template with the laser cutter that I used alongside an embossing pen to create the last three pages of this book that fold out&emdash;I learned that when creating the embossing template the thinner the card used in the template the sharper the embossed finish created.
