A clear understanding on how ink works, beyond how it lays onto the paper, is an asset that can only improve the project at hand. In this case, understanding how each color ink would relate within each other led to an ink adjustment that added depth and shine to an already interesting poster.
MeWithoutYou was kind enough to allow us to create a poster for their show in the belly of our great state. Their music is loaded with beautiful metaphors and haunting imagery which makes designing a poster a lot easier. The lyrics of songs like The Fox, The Crow and The Cookie, Bullet to Binary (Part Two) and Catail Down are littered with references to death, materialism and regret—which made this poster nearly design itself.
We thought our usual black ink might feel a little chalky against two pretty vibrant colors so we added some cyan and navy ink we had at the shop to give it a denser midnight tone. We also thought we could get a mild sheen by adding a bit of gloss varnish to the mix. Luckily it paid off in spades.
