Not only did the card succeed in making me laugh, but it also had me seriously trying to decipher the graphics. The impossible task of turning holiday magic into hard data has officially been achieved.

Project Description

I aimed to create a card for family, friends, and coworkers that would "educate" them about the state of affairs at the North Pole. The aesthetic originated in my work with data visualisation and the content from my sense of humour and interest in geopolitics. And if design and content came together just right, I hoped the card would get the reader to smile if not laugh. The envelope's concept solidified when the card was nearly finished. Surely the North Pole would not want its secrets getting out and so it seemed only natural that a warning should be issued to those receiving the card inside.

Production Lesson(s)

Accustomed more to the freedoms of designing interactive data visualisations in terms of colour, size and the ability to layer stories, I struggled trying to find the right balance of design and content. ”
