2012-13 FPO Awards

From time to time we show a one-of-a-kind project here on FPO, and this particular book has minimal ink in it, but no lack of wow factor. Carefully hand crafted and assembled by Soh Jin Ping, each page reveals itself through beautiful relationships with the pages the precede it, and those that are yet to be seen.

Project Description

Poetics of Harmony is an artistic interpretation on the universal order of Taoist Cosmology and Internal Alchemy. The harmonious relations among the different cosmological configurations that intervene between the Tao and the "ten thousand things" are illustrated in the well-known WuJi diagram and this diagram becomes the fundamental reference for this project.

The project is split into three sections, each explaining the various components of harmony as explained by Taoists. The first book presents about the Void and how Yin and Yang are born out of the void. The second book traced the patterns of how one element produces or controls the other, based on the grid of Loshu diagram. The last book presents on the concept of triple unity through a series of paper cuts.

Production Lesson(s)

All three books are personally hand-cut and hand-bound after finding the perfect paper color and grammage (earlier drafts risk looking incoherent as a series or too flimsy to withstand its own weight).”
