Project Description

We think print is special. It's a direct and personal way of communication. Unlike the text you are reading now, it is tangible and real. You can hold a printed page in your hand and it can engage you in a way nothing else can. The paper has texture, it is audible, and the tacky ink has odor. It's a powerful way of distributing information and should be reserved for important and meaningful communication. Print should not be wasted.

The Yellow Pages is the very antithesis of that idea. It's the remnants of an outdated business model, cheaply printed and full of junk ads and redundant information. So, when it landed on our doorstep, we lopped off the spine and ran it through our press, with the simple message "You can count me out". The transparent Pantone Red 032 ink overprinted the black text on over a thousand cheap, thin pages.

Production Lesson(s)

The paper you use for a project can communicate as much as the typography, colour and layout. ”
