Lead Image

The difficult choice of foil stamping over better paper quality pays off in designer Kathy Ager’s whimsical yet sophisticated, sea inspired wedding invitation for Geoff and Jaimie, but it’s the rubber-stamped, monogramed live bait that’s got me hooked.

Project Description

Geoff and Jaimie met while working at a fishing resort on northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Both grew up connected to the sea and fishing and wanted to convey this in their wedding theme. I wanted to avoid fishing cliches, especially those that could be liked to a wedding (think "great catch") but still retain the playfulness of the theme and the couple themselves. I created an illustration that was a sort of bundle brought up from the sea for the front of the card, which was then tied up with blue and white twine and a tag with a custom logo. The silver foil stamping brought a touch of sophistication to the otherwise whimsical card.

Production Lesson(s)

We had quite a limited budget so deciding between a better paper stock or adding something special like the silver foil stamp was hard. I'm happy we went with the foil though!”
