These charming, modern wedding invitations with earthy fall elements set the mood for Wesley and Mishelle’s October wedding through color palette, paper and printing texture. Baker’s twine was a nice touch, making the invitation look like an old-fashioned parcel.

Project Description

The purpose of this project was to create a modern invitation that would visually represent the feel of our October wedding to guests. We didn't want to overwhelm the recipients with the idea of fall, so we chose autumn colors to convey the atmosphere of the venue and wedding palette, then wrapped them in an earthy, textured craft paper. They were then bound with bakers twine, and accented with custom orange tags which were ordered via Etsy. The information on the tags was transferred by blender marker to create a stamped look. The stamping of the blender marker made every tag unique with imperfections and ink bleeds. It was a perfect compliment to letterpress, with it's natural matte textures and slight variations forming in the inks.

The invitations were designed at the last minute, just a couple of months before the wedding because as most brides know, the secret to any successful wedding is last-minute panic. The most difficult part of the project was finding a letterpress studio that could meet the tight deadline. The folks at Hound Dog Press were very responsive and turned around the invitations remarkably fast, despite the custom paper order from the French Paper Co.

Production Lesson(s)

Blender markers can be fussy, so when transferring your toner-printed image to another surface be sure to ascertain whether your surface is coated or uncoated. In this case the surface of the tags was coated, so the ink didn't soak into the the paper as quickly. This means the tags required less blender solvent. The envelopes, however, were uncoated, requiring more pressure and solvent from the blender marker.”
