For his DIH(imself) business cards Nate Harris decided to experiment with edge painting for the first time. When the recommended spray paint bled and left unwanted speckles on the cards Nate went on in search of a better solution. It turns out Faber Castell PITT pens work pretty well: an idea to file away for future DIM(yself) projects.

Project Description

A set of hand printed business cards on heavy board for self promotion.

Production Lesson(s)

The Strathmore board was the most economically friendly when purchasing large boards and cutting it down. I used an oversized guillotine cutter to cut it down to size. This was time consuming and inaccurate. Next time, I will find a printer to machine-cut. This was the first time I experimented with edge painting. I was recommended to spray-paint the edges. I had a terrible time. The paint bled through all of the cards leaving ugly speckles. I decided to take a few scratch cards and experiment with markers that didn't bleed at the art supply. The Faber Castell PITT artist pen worked amazing. It was an inexpensive solution and I had much more control.”
