These very-limited edition calendars are the result of a year-long project involving the careful digitization of hand-brushed type. They came out great—not only for the first time Christopher Rouleau converted hand-lettering to digital lettering—and I won’t be surprised if he has to make more next year to meet demand.

Project Description
This calendar is the culmination of a year-long lettering project. Each month, I hand-lettered a dozen header options with a Pentel brush pen, rendered the final selects in Illustrator, and incorporated them into the layouts. I also hand-lettered a supplementary set of numerals and capitals for the week titles. These were compiled in FontLab, and then typeset into the final calendar spreads. Production Lesson(s)
This was my first time converting hand-lettering to digital lettering on such a large scale. It was challenging—and gratifying—to refine each of the titles, while preserving their original spontaneity and flavor. Hand-trimming a limited edition is always a good exercise in consistency and patience, especially when you don't have any overstock. Measure twice, cut once!
