Curtin University’s Design Experience 100 was commissioned by the school (Western Australia’s largest university) to showcase exemplary work in student design. Printed digitally but elevated with exposed binding and foil stamping, LivingBrand’s estimable execution definitely sets the curve.

Project Description

LivingBrand was commissioned by Curtin University to strategise and design a book that documented and showcased design student exemplars. The process began with the development of a strategy to aggregate the complex data into a usable and visually engaging form. The solution was the implementation of a flexible data visualisation system that adapts visually with a bespoke typeface. The typeface changes form depending on each section of the publication. The volume of lines within each set of 10 numerals correlates with the value of the number.

Production Lesson(s)

Keeping the exposed binding straight during the drying of the glue caused a number of issues and resulted in a few more 'offcuts' than expected. Creating an impression for the orange foil that was deep enough to make an impact was also quite difficult.”
