Project Description

Every Easter our team puts together a print piece to be distributed at our campuses here in Austin, Texas. We chose to illustrate the story of Jesus from resurrection to ascension, depicted in monoline artwork. The detail was something we wanted people to be able to interact with, so we knew we either wanted the piece to be debossed or embossed to create a meticulous texture. By using a matte gold foil and an offset flooded sheet to back the artwork we feel like we found a nice mix of subtlety and surprise.

Production Lesson(s)

Translating color from polyester to paper is quite a challenge. And, since this artwork was printed on 25-foot fabric banners we had to take special care to get color matched correctly. Additionally, scaling the artwork required that the strokes hit a minimum weight to avoid 'clumping' on the foil plates. Those two complexities led to slight adjustments on the artwork from application to application. Unfortunately the counter from the 'A' in 'Austin' didn't catch the memo—the foil is filled in. ”
