This series of silk-screened posters by UK-based Grace Parry gives our minds a clean slate with which to ponder Locke’s radical seventeenth-century message that innate ideas do not exist.

Project Description

John Locke’s "An Essay Concerning Human Understanding" was first published in 1689, the ideas at the time were a radical new philosophy. A series of six silk screen printed posters have been designed, containing the first chapter of the Essay. The posters aim to draw attention to the text and serve as a reminder that a work from the seventeenth century can still be incredibly forward-thinking and inspiring.

Production Lesson(s)

This project was somewhat of a learning curve, from blocked screens to running out of extending medium... it sometimes felt like everything was going wrong. But I learned to embrace challenges and imperfections, sometimes they create the most interesting results. ”
