Project Description

Brazilian singer Tulipa Ruiz invited me to design her latest album, Dancê — an album, as the Portuguese title suggests, made for dancing. My idea was to bring Tulipa's illustrations to life by using an old animation technique known as ombro-cinema or scananimation. When placing the illustrations behind the striped jacket, the rapid alternation of two different drawings creates an illusion of movement.

Production Lesson(s)

The CD packaging and booklet had different outputs and papers involved: besides the cardboard of packing and paper for booklet, there is a spread printed in greaseproof paper in the central page of the booklet. It was printed in black and a special varnish was used to guarantee it would be dry on time.

As it were printed in two different places, two different graphic producers helped me to assure all details would be checked. ”
