Project Description

Correspondence in D Minor is Texas novelist James R. Dennis’ debut as a poet. (Along with two friends, James co-authors the Miles Arceneaux mystery series.) Many of the poems in this book are written as fictional letters to or from literary, historical or Biblical figures. Pre-release reviews are effusive: Texas Poet Laureate Rosemary Catacalos cites the collection’€™s “fine, leavening humor and compelling engagement with the mystery of being alive—author Noel Crook calls the book "a humdinger of a debut".

Production Lesson(s)

This limited edition book of 250 is more complex than just black ink on white paper. Matching black letterpress ink to the offset-printed text pages—while maintaining the depth we were looking for—€”initially proved challenging. Keeping the ink even across the large "D" on the front cover without smashing the smaller type also were challenges to solve. Master craftsman, John Earls, at Workhorse worked through each issue we moved through the run.

The materials for the book, the paper, end sheets and foil stamp each lend elegant and tactile punctuation to an otherwise beautiful, understated design.”
