Often the most rewarding projects are those that start out as a game or experiment and end up becoming something tangible for many based on feedback and willingness to take a risk. This poster series is a great example of a personal project that gathered enough interest to see it come to fruition at a larger scale.

Project Description

A stylish/contemporary series of posters released by Canadian designer Mike Hanlon. The Type Gallery is a personal project of Mike’s featuring twelve screen printed posters celebrating the art of typography. Each poster presents one of the world’€™s great typefaces and includes the type designer, the foundry, historical perspective and a complete alphabet.

Production Lesson(s)

Originally the posters were developed for personal use but inquiries and interest caused me to expand the project and make the posters available to a wider audience. Enjoyed choosing the typefaces and working with writer Paul Michael Brunelle who researched each typeface and developed the copy that accompanies each poster. As well, Canadian Typographer Rod McDonald added his input on the copy to ensure historical accuracy. ”
