An experimental project that while not mass produced, or sold, allowed one designer to explore a particular style while repurposing materials and playing with a printing press. Having yielded interesting results I am curious to see what can come next.

Project Description

Scrapbook is a series of compositions printed from wooden scraps and unused blocks. These scraps were collected from woodcut-based artworks created in 2016 and composed as an exercise to explore abstract shape and simplified form.

Production Lesson(s)

The blocks were cut using a table saw, scroll saw, and a router. This resulted in a mix of perfect geometry and handmade form. The designs were then printed on a relief press and hand bound to comprise an 8 page, 1 color, self-published volume. This process has helped me both utilize the excess material I have produced throughout the year, and investigate a stripped down, abstract-based style. ”
