Categories
The FPO Awards categories are focused on print production over project type. This means that, as one example of many, a business card will be judged in contrast to a poster if they are both letterpressed.
Categories are open to design professionals, students, printers, and hobbyists as long as the work was produced in a minimum quantity of 50.
Categories do not determine fees, so don’t be shy about your category selection.
Work must have been produced between 2011 and June 2012.
Upon entering you can only select one category. If a project is produced using one or more of the methods listed below you may enter it either as a Mix (category 15) or enter it in multiple categories for each method to be judged individually (separate fees apply).
01 / PRINTING METHOD
Offset (Litho)
Includes CMYK, spot color, and varnishes; and sheetfed and web.
02 / PRINTING METHOD
Letterpress
Includes spot colors, blind letterpress, and varnishes; and polymer and traditional wood plates.
03 / PRINTING METHOD
Silkscreen
04 / PRINTING METHOD
Foil Stamp (Foil Block)
05 / PRINTING METHOD
Engraving
06 / PRINTING METHOD
Thermography
07 / PRINTING METHOD
Flexography
08 / PRINTING METHOD
Digital

Inkjet
Keep in mind: 50 is the minimum quantity.
10 / PRINT METHOD
Other
Projects that use less common print methods like Flocking, Gravure, Etching, or other.
11 / FINISHING
Varnishes
A specific category to judge use of varnishes, independent of print method.
12 / FINISHING
Binding
A specific category to judge binding techniques, independent of print method.
13 / FINISHING
Laser
Includes laser-cutting and laser-etching.
14 / FINISHING
Die-cutting

Mix
For projects that mix 2 or more print methods and/or finishing techniques.
