My great aesthetic moment of 1987 passed as I sat in New York's Beacon Theater for the premiere of Wim Wenders' Der Himmel über Berlin / Wings of Desire. Two large mythological statues on either side of the stage and decaying architectural grandeur were the setting for an incredibly raw and impassioned film experience. As Wenders and Solveig Dommartin (both his girfriend and the actress who played the trapeeze artist) walked out on stage to introduce the film, they were two of the most gracefully stylish people I had ever seen. Both fashionably dressed, earthy, comfortable, and "oh, that hair."

Sadly, Dommartin passed away last month, too young, of a heart attack. The Media Funhouse pays tribute with a favorite scene from Wings of Desire.
