Is that the same erik spiekermann who designed 2 of my favorite fonts as well as wrote "stop stealing sheep.." as well as work at MetaDesign? because that site just this side of useless.

How did you choose these 5? They seem strangely rough around the edges, admittedly they have slightly different sensibilities than us here in the new world but these feel... I guess a little stale and old to me. Are we moving web deign in a more useful user centered direction than the EU at the moment? Or is it just a matter of taste, since design house web sites have never been to most user friendly. Studio Bumbar gives my screen feedback.

Does Meta still exist? I find it odd that Spiekermann's links section wouldn't include a link to Meta. Plus, I couldn't seem to get the Metadesign.com site to load.

Honestly? they were the ones I had in my bookmarks. And I think they are interesting. Not great or good. Interesting. I think Fabrizio's site is the best of all those.

I like how Spiekerman can be a freelancer across three countries. I thought I was cool for having clients in two - but thats because I just moved from one of the countries.

Most freelancers I know are pushing for work in the same state.

And yes... interesting selection Armin.

Perhaps I could point you to Dean Allen's post yesterday on Allen Lane's acquisition of Tschichold to become Penguin's typographic director.

Yeah, saw it yesterday. Interesting stuff. Tschichold also designed penguin's logo:

I wanna be a typographic director.

I thought the Underware site was nice n' easy. I loved seeing the rough sketches of their typefaces in contrast to their final digital forms. Sauna is hot!

Magnus Rakeng's site used to have some great ones too. I can't seem to find them on the site anymore. What happened Magnus?

Welcome to Our Site...Entire Site: London Design Collective.

Warning to Armin: Contains BuroDestruct-style haute design. Proceed at your own risk...

But they're the folks who made the original (so they say) world's smallest site. You WILL love the tiny site! LOVE IT, I say!

Gabriel Martinez Meave has some really nice sketches too. Check out the "KTF future releases" section.
