David Weinberger’s comment is:

We had a great time and Edmonton was very welcoming. Bass got a few shots in, but was no match for the dreaded "spinning back-fist"

Michael Surtees and the GDC were great hosts.

This should be the easiest post to write though I'm finding it to be quite difficult. How do you balance respect with wow? We have had the opportunity to hear some very good speakers in the past couple years - Casey Hrynkow, Dave Mason, Chris Staples, Michael Osborne, Kit Hinrichs, Alison Hahn and Nigel Smith, and Diti Katona among others. The difference this time is that I doubt Old vs. New would have happened without the community that is Speak Up!

The context was set up before I even saw the opportunity. Dave Weinberger had the guts to start talking about UPS here at SU and it eventually came full circle with the United Way in posts that would have never found itself in print. I sent a simple email to Dave after the UPS discussion had happened to invite him to Edmonton. In the months preceding the bout, he was professional on a level that I've rarely encountered.

We had three times the amount of people that we usually have for an event. More importantly for the GDC, we had non designers come to hear the processes that Dave and Sven worked through to get it right for their clients. Chances are pretty good that you'll have the opportunity to hear Dave and Sven talk someday so I wont reveal too much. DesignMaven, you will be impressed. To those that think the redesigns are sacrilegious, (and you Yaleys know who you are), I challenge you to invite them to speak up on your turf. It will be worth the effort.

Michael, Thanks for the kind words. We had a great time and the crowd was definitely receptive. I would love to think that the "three times the amount of people that we usually have for an event" where there because of me but I'm pretty sure you're promotion of the event had something to do with it. Great work.

To those that think the redesigns are sacrilegious, (and you Yaleys know who you are), I challenge you to invite them to speak up on your turf. It will be worth the effort.

I've got my boxing gloves ready…Scott.
