Quipsologies
~ Vol. 6 ~

New type, new magazines and new soda but, most importantly, you find out what makes Marian happy while she drives in this rendition of Quipsologies.

~ BRYONY ~

Pepsi One: No costly TV ads, no special effects and no celebrities… unless the yeti counts as one.

~

Sports go Hispanic. ESPN Deportes will debut in May and Sports Illustrated “will be testing the Spanish waters with three initial issues”.

~ JASON A. TSELENTIS ~

Before Doom and Tetris, we had board games. Redmond A. Simonsen, an early maker of strategic board games that scaled some of history’s great battles down to table size, died last Wednesday.

~ MARIAN BANTJES ~

My friend Marshall Sokoloff goes to Hatch in Nashville and posts this and these photos. (I got scooped by Coudal, though, goddammit.)

This makes me happy while I drive.

~ ARMIN ~

In 2006, Microsoft will include six new typefaces — by the likes of famed typographers as Lucas de Groot and John Hudson — in its operating system. [Via Typophile].

Jeff Gill’s comment is:

The new MS typefaces that everybody is writing about this week were covered extensively in the lovely czech/english magazine Typo way back in Issue 11 - Nov/Dec 2004. Isn't the web s'posed to be way ahead of print?

Further proof that we all read the same 9 websites.

Marian -- Thanks for that link to the Hatch Show Print photos. Awesome. Now, if you could only somehow provide a link to the smell of that shop, I'd be in heaven.

Tan’s comment is:

Hmm...the typefaces are quite decent, but all remind me of other faces...like Gills, Meta, Syntax...

Constantia (isn't that a former Soviet state?) is the nicest in my opinion. It's nicely proportional, and has a friendliness that would work well in editorial text — very similar (in application, not design) to MSL's Archer.

Candara is the ugliest — very similar to Cronos, another ugly MS bastard font.

I seem to agree w/ the author...

Ha!

Should I feel bad for posting that thread on typophile instead of Speakup? ;o)

As for Hatch, it's about the only reason to visit that town these days...but it's a great reason.
