Riding a wave of major international interest and acclaim, a young generation of Scandinavians is producing ground-breaking new designs with a pace and ingenuity that rivals that of Scandinavia‚s golden age during the 1950s. To address this vital moment in the world of international design, awarding-winning creative director Raul Cabra and Metropolitan Home magazine editor and writer Katherine E. Nelson will host a traveling lecture series that will cater to the growing North American fascination with the dynamic Scandinavian design scene. The presentation will debate hot cultural issues introduced in the celebrated book New Scandinavian Design co-edited by Cabra and Nelson and published in January 2005 by Chronicle Books.
For this compelling traveling lecture series, Cabra and Nelson have assembled an extraordinary group of five designers, one from each Nordic country. This articulate and distinguished panel includes Dane Ole Jensen, a designer and ceramicist for Royal Copenhagen, Finn Kivi Sotamaa, an architect and furniture designer, Icelander Hrafnkell Birgisson, a product designer, Swede Monica Förster, a furniture designer, and Norwegian Cathrine Maske, a glass designer.
