ABOUT FPO (THE SERIOUS DESCRIPTION)
---
FPO celebrate the reality that print is not dead by showcasing the most compelling printed projects and presenting the details and processes — like timeframes, cost and production techniques — behind the work. FPO boldly asks: If print is dead, what are we all still doing here?

ABOUT FPO (THE AS-IT-HAPPENED DESCRIPTION)
---
It’s hard to ignore the design-related web sites that enjoy vast popularity by displaying colorful, juicy and detailed photographs of exciting work from around the world. These image-filled web sites become addictive bursts of visual stimulation. And we wanted in. But what could we do to set us apart from other web sites and to continue the development of blogs that serve some sort of purpose? We decided to focus on print. A subject matter we know, love and understand. A process that, despite numerous eulogies, is still alive. Perhaps even more lively than ever as designers are tasked with producing their designs under tighter budgets and pressing concerns about the environment. By focusing on print work, we know that we will have an endless array of work to showcase as it rolls of the presses and by creating very detailed project overviews and sharing the production details of each project we can actually establish a source of both inspiration and education.

The name of the blog is, of course, inspired by the decades-old tradition of labeling images, illustration and/or text that are not ready to print yet as FPO, “For Placement Only.” The play on words was very straightforward: Our blog will be only… for… print, so we named it For Print Only, “FPO.”

FPO Logo
The Logo
A simple, custom, geometric sans serif with a hollow inline accompanied by a hard, striped shadow, complemented by the workhorse serif Paperback.

Fonts
For the first time ever we have used Times New Roman in one of our blogs. It makes us giddy.

Bright Colors
Also for the first time, we are using insanely bright colors to complement the otherwise black-and-white layout. Every month or so we will switch the bright color to another bright color. Perhaps our next print job is screaming for fluorescent inks.
