OCD | The Original Champions of Design (New York, NY)
— We developed the bespoke iconography to reflect the championship nature of this prestigious TDC competition.
— The work features TDC winning typefaces of the past 5 years.
— To shake things up a bit we chose a distinctive color palette starting with the purple for the early bird deadline then branches out into blues and pinks for the final deadline.
— The modular grid is a type reference to the, California Job Case, originally used for movable type.

A call for entries for a design competition is an atypical subject for a post on Brand New, I know, but this year's identity for the Type Directors Club annual competition was particularly logo-y. Using winning typefaces from the last five Annual TDC Typeface Design Competition winners, OCD created around three dozen logos-slash-icons-slash-badges all around the theme of championship. There are nods to the Olympic Rings, laurel wreaths, wrestling and boxing belts, and those obnoxious oversize championship rings. The icons have either a "62" for the competition number or "37" for the number of the upcoming annual book. They all come together in retina-crashing color combinations accompanied by more winning typefaces and some excellent typesetting. Overall, plain fun and perfectly targeted to designers.
