(Est. 2012) “NowThis News is a Lerer Hippeau Ventures startup portfolio company. It was founded by Huffington Post co-founder and former chairman Kenneth Lerer and former Huffington Post CEO Eric Hippeau. Bedrocket founder Brian Bedol, Oak Investment Partners Managing Partner Fred Harman and Nikhil Kalghatgi are investors and board members. Co-Founder Hippeau said, “The idea came as Ken and I were tossing around thoughts in mobile news. It was evident that there was no video news, breaking news, that was created in video format just for mobile devices”.” (Wikipedia)

Not much about this one but if you spend any time of Facebook you've probably seen this new logo more than any other we've noted this month as their quick, subtitled videos pop into feeds every other post it seems. Neither old or new logo are good and the new one is both an improvement and a step backward. It's an improvement technically as the logo is cleaner, simpler, and arguably more useful but it's a step backward in that it's now more generic and less recognizable. The old monogram, as clunky as it was, at least made a visual statement with a downward chevron formed by the letters. The new logo could be interpreted as a riff on the equality sign from the Human Rights Campaign which may not be the worse thing as their videos are usually about awareness of what's going on in the world. Still, a fairly bland logo in the end.
Thanks to Bailey Yordnoff for the tip.
