Class is in Session

Welcome to Brand New Classroom, a proud descendant of everybody’s favorite, Brand New. I encourage you to read the About page to get the full description but if you just want the quick version: We will be publishing identity work from students around the world who tackle redesigns of well-known brands as a class assignment. The focus will be as much on the final result as the process to get there. All of our readers are encouraged to provide constructive feedback, whether you are a student yourself or a seasoned professional. If you are eager to submit your work for consideration right away please read our selection criteria at the submission page.

The catalyst for Brand New Classroom came during this penguin-based, unexpected 80-plus-comment discussion that triggered some interesting opinions about student and process work. But it was a comment at 1:00 am on that thread, where reader rayray, simple proposed, “Maybe start a BRAND NEW STUDENT section.” While we’ve always wondered about extending Brand New to the student population it wasn’t until that moment that we said, Yes, let’s do it. Now.

Unlike Brand New, posts here will not be accompanied by an author’s opinion — in this case we believe the collective opinion and insight is more beneficial than a the typical “authoritative” opinion.

You can also consider this an official invitation to submit your work. At this point we will be accepting work that is one or two years old for those of you that have joined the work force recently, but after a few months we will only be accepting work from enrolled students or six-months-ago graduates.

At launch there are two sample posts of what you can expect here. One more will be posted on Thursday and by next week we would love to be on a one-post-a-day schedule based on all your wonderful submissions. We hope you enjoy Brand New Classroom.
