Ferocious Quarterly is a curated quarterly publication that collects illustrators, graphic artists, short fiction authors and written text. It’s somewhere between an art and culture mag (without the articles), a coffee table art book (without having to charge customers for the production) and an art journal (with some short fiction).

A set of 96 pages with a big agenda for sure, but a peek inside the pages lead me to believe the high set goals have been met in a fun and quality-driven manner.

We are aware that many have done it before us, and many will do it after us. We’re brand new and we’ve managed to gather contributors from all over the world. Illustrators and writers from the Wall Street Journal, Nickelodeon Magazine, Wired Magazine, DC Comics, Sing Statistics, The New York Times, Penguin Books, and Believer Magazine… just to name a few. We couldn’t be more honored, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Completing the project was no easy task. Finding the line between affordability for us and affordability for our customers while not sacrificing the quality of print was a great challenge. This is our debut so we wanted to come out with our guns-a-blazing. Yet didn’t want it to put us out on the streets either. Courier Printing helped us spec papers and options for the cover that fit all these needs tremendously. Gathering an army of artists and coordinating them via email proved to be quite a task in itself. Moving forward, we’re doing better at building our production calendar and sending updates and nudges along the way.

Here at FPO we are looking forward to the next installment, where the process will surely be less bumpy but the end result can only be better than the first volume.
