Being the neat freak that I am I can’t imagine seeing a publication get a full re-design with each issue—but I am not a fool. I see the value of what multiple people can bring to the pages and surely I would be happy to pursue the other issues of the Canvas Creative Arts Magazine.

Canvas Creative Arts Magazine is a Bloomington, Indiana based publication that accepts the best visual and written work from undergraduate and graduate students at all IU campuses. Each semester a new designer works on the magazine giving it a fresh, new look — the size of the magazine stays consistent so that they can be collected and look nice on a shelf together.

Read on and see if you have ever encountered this particular charge by a vendor, or if this is a one-vendor solution to the crappy economy.

The die-cut was the most difficult part. The segments of the letterforms were moved apart so that they could be cut by a traditional die. Usually for a cut this tight a printer would use a laser cut die, but we didn’t have room in the budget. Another thing I was surprised about was that the printer charged an additional fee because the die-cut spelled something (!).
