Project Description

POST27, a Chicago-based furniture boutique, needed a new design for its gift certificate. I wanted to create something that is more like a present, something that the recipient can unwrap, and something that's out of the ordinary bank-check like design. I designed them to be self-contained with tabs to keep the cards closed. When you open up, the interior allows the gift giver to write a personal message to the receiver, along with the value/amount of the gift certificate. Since it's for a local small business with a limited budget, these were printed on a laser printer and handcrafted, cut and fold.

Production Lesson(s)

Printing double-sided on your own is very difficult. Alignment between the two sides are often inconsistent. I had to figure out ways to counter that problem. One is to incorporate a simple pattern, in this case a grid, so misalignment wouldn't be noticeable. My other solution is to use an additional piece, so I can control where that content is placed when I stick it on manually. And it actually added to the design as it gives the piece more depth and gives that content more prominence once you open up it up.”
