Halftones can really open up the realm of possibilities when screen-printing with a limited color palette. Dominic Flask worked with the printers at Vahalla to make sure his halftones were in just the right place for these Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban-influenced posters.

Project Description

The fine folks from the Silver Screen Society asked me to create an illustration based on the movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Not being the hugest Potter fan in the world it was fun for me to delve into the movie again and find all of the different things about it that intrigued me. In the end, what I settled on depicting was all the different modes of transportation in the movie. Trains, self-driving carriages, invisible buses and flying horse birds, what better ways are there to get around in life?

Production Lesson(s)

This was the first time I'd tried to do any half-toning in a screen printed poster. I learned a lot about the best ways to achieve this effect and the folks at Vahalla were amazing at helping me to get my art set up correctly with the appropriate trappings to keep the half-tone dots exactly where they needed to be.”
