These Wes Anderson-esque wedding invitations could pass for classic camping brochures. Guts & Glory absolutely nailed the look and feel of camping materials from days of yore, until you start to notice the funny names and directions. If I wasn’t so good at tying the Probably Knot, maybe I would have eventually earned that Eagle Scout ranking …

Project Description

Our friends Pepin & Teresa celebrated their wedding in Maine at a summer camp called Camp Wohelo, which they renamed Camp TeePee for their long wedding weekend. To celebrate the event, we created a set of collateral that included a digital animated save the date, a two sided letterpressed invitation wheel where you could discover your spirit animal on one side and learn about the history of the couple on the other, and a 50 page camp brochure.

We knew the letterpressed wheels would be pricy but worth it, so we designed the rest of the collateral to be produced cheaply and easily using off-the-shelf materials: manilla envelopes, stock mailing labels and brochures that were printed one color at Staples. To finish everything off, a set of rubber stamps were created to add to the pieces as they were assembled.

Production Lesson(s)

The wheels turned out to be much more complex to produce than we'd anticipated, but well worth the effort. We've worked with Cranky Pressman many times over the past few years and always seem to be pushing the boundaries of the letterpress medium in one way or another—this time it was with tiny thin type, one-sixteenth-inch margins and three different sized sheets of custom die-cut paper. To insert the braids into the finished pieces, each hole had to be eyeballed and drilled by hand while making sure everything lined up and they did a phenomenal job, as always, working within extremely tight tolerances.”
