Mary Tsouloufa Stationery

Production Method

Graphic Design/Art Direction/Photography: Konstantina Yiannakopoulou & George Strouzas

For photographer Mary Tsouloufa’s identity and stationery The Birthday’s chose the half-tone transition from black to white as a symbol of her range of creative abilities. It was important to illustrate her ability to take artistic shots with a dark mood, and also more commercially viable images for weddings and special events. The overall design of the stationery falls in line with the half-tone concept in its minimal simplicity, utility, and sharp contrast.

Project Description

Mary Tsouloufa, an emerging photographer, asked us to design her stationery, a series of things designed in a way that could reflect her aesthetic as a photographer. Focused on artistic black and white portraits, dramatic scenes, natural and urban captures but also on mainstream projects, such as social events. We came up with the halftone idea, a close up capture, based on the black and white effect, giving a smooth transition from light to dark, a metaphor showing that Mary can deal with projects from commercial to artistic. A modern and clean type system has been chosen to support the identity, that would be related with the halftone effect, following the same technical feeling.

Production Lesson(s)

The challenge was to communicate something that represents her aesthetic, which is mostly black and white, with dark atmosphere directed photos, but also keep a mainstream spirit for more commercial projects, such as weddings and social events. We shouldn't consider only her artistic point of view. The stationery should communicate to everyone and not only her ideal clients.”
