These sexy candle packages are the bee’s knees! A sense of opulent finesse drips from the fine laser-cut details and subtle letter-pressed details on dark blue paper. The well-struck balance between delicacy and defense is a design coup that any proud worker bee should admire.

Project Description

Beeswax production is an incredibly labor-intensive task, both by the bees and our neighbors at Worker B. When we started developing packaging, we decided to focus on the bee's process of collecting wax. Layered with different elements of the process, custom illustrated flowers climb around the label over the top of a laser cut honeycomb pattern. This movement alludes to the cycle the bees go through to collect this wax throughout their entire life. We then letterpress printed this label in house.

This beautiful deep blue paper was hit with a subtly darker ink for tone on tone contrast. This was followed by a custom die cut complete with unique locking closures. The delicate and detailed pattern in the background and logo were then laser cut. It's always a treat to see our creative run through the studio from concept to completion.

Production Lesson(s)

The biggest challenge with this project was learning the process of laser cutting. There was a delicate balance of the intricacies of the pattern and maintaining the full function of the package (which was to protect a fragile candle in shipping). We found a wonderful balance in the end.”
