Project Description

After keeping a low profile for most of its 40 years, SFS launched a two-phase campaign to publicly celebrate the 40th anniversary of the company. The overarching goal of the campaign was to strengthen the position of the company as a leading and innovative architectural design firm.

In the first phase, a general announcement was designed to strengthen the SFS brand, celebrate four decades of architectural practice, visually represent the firm’s award-winning design capabilities and thank those with whom we had collaborated with over the years.

The second phase, invitations to an anniversary celebration, highlighted the firm’s light-hearted, fun-loving and low-ego culture. We drew on the location of the party (a brewery) and the firm’s self-deprecating humor to create an invitation and a series of coasters featuring unfinished jokes (ex./ three architects walked into a room…) that engaged guests in the party.  The coasters encouraged guests to interact via social media prior to the party by submitting their own endings to the jokes, and the coasters also doubled as a keepsake.

Production Lesson(s)

The most difficult part of this project was laying down the huge area of foil on the felt textured surface. The edges of the foil would tend to pull up after every hit, so the printer had to use all sorts of little tricks to get the foil to stay down. We went through a lot of press sheets to get it just right, but it was well worth it. ”
