If textbooks had been this nice when I was in school, I would have discovered much sooner that I didn’t care about what was inside and only wanted to be a graphic designer.

Project Description

A book design of a textbook for learning the vernacular music of the island of Krk, Croatia, written by the melographer Ivan Pavačić Jecalićev. The book provides everything from the basics of music theory to every specific of this unique two-part music with narrow intervals, including various exercises and notations of the folk songs from every part of the island. A contrasting colour pallet is inspired by the distinctive two-part characteristic of the music (1st and 2nd voice, male and female voice).

Production Lesson(s)

The production was almost straight-forward except for the typography on the cover. Originally, the idea was to have typography printed as white foil onto cloth surface. However, the combination of all available white foils with our cloth turned out to be a nightmare: it simply wouldn't stick. Apparently, metallic foils, such as gold and silver usually have better performance and other foils are really sensitive to the surface they are applied. After numerous tests we had to opt for silk-screening the typography on the cover.”
