Project Description

In the past year I began to work more and more with lead types and letterpress; so I had the idea to make this poster, a semi-ironic reflection about the choice of using traditional and potentially dangerous techniques nowadays, as if being sort of predestined. Saturnism is lead poisoning, a typographer's professional illness. I composed the illustration with a lead monospaced typeface, the illustration is a found piece of ascii-art.

Production Lesson(s)

Printing in letterpress on a dark paper is always a challenge, to have an acceptable result you have to make many tests, try different papers and inks, not to mention different levels of pressure and ink amounts. For this poster we wanted the letters to really stand out against the dark paper, to immediately convey the impression of a starry night. After many trials we decided to print it in opaque white and, immediately after, dust the print with a metallic powder, this solution gave us the desidered shiny effect.”
