These triplexed punch cards have a layer of yellow in the middle to simulate mustard when the wieners are poked out of their laser-singed holes—quite the red-hot experience.

Project Description

Printed coasters, business cards and punch cards for the Minneapolis based food cart, Natedogs; serving up natural, homegrown, all-pork wieners with hand crafted mustards. This project was letterpress printed and triplexed with 100# French Lemon Drop in the middle so that the wieners look like they have a strip of Nate's house mustard on them when punched out. The dieline was laser cut which gave off a subtle burnt glow to the edges to give off a tone of the cart's burners and to toast the yellow inner layer to achieve the color of Nate's Honey-Spiced Mustard. The coasters and cards were left in the sheets so that Nate could hand write notes on the margin and give them out at thank you cards after catering events.

Production Lesson(s)

Press checks are always a good use of time. The width of tabs were decreased slightly during laser cutting to make it easier for the smaller pieces to pop out. Additional tabs were added to keep the larger coasters and cards in the sheet. The amount of burn on the edges was also a variable we were able to dial in so that it was subtle.”
