Embossed to look like bark with full-on foil inside, the packaging for these Christmas candles was a technical triumph. The sensory rejoicing continues with the candle itself, which has a crackling cedar wick and scent of pine. Bundling in some matches and a note, this holiday gift is a complete package of seasonal cheer.

Project Description

We have produced 100 candles for our clients and suppliers. We've asked our client and dear friend Isabelle at "Monsillage" to collaborate with us and help us define and produce a candle with a scent of Pine/Fir tree. We wanted to do a packaging that reflects a small cube of wood, a small piece of log. Our goal was to reach to more senses possible: sight, smell, touch and hearing (the wick is a piece of cedar so it crakles when burning).

Production Lesson(s)

One of the main challenges was to simulate a bark texture on the paper with the emboss technique. It had to look and feel real when touching it. We had to make sure that the embossing would not be a problem with the scores on the creases/folds. It was a first for us doing a big massive gold foil inside the box. It was a gamble not knowing if the foil would hold on the paper with that embossing bark texture. Also, how small can you go for the copy doing foil stamping? Now we know.”
